National Science Foundation (NSF), Sri Lanka is the premier funding organization which facilitates research, development and innovation to create a knowledge economy while engaging in capacity building, infrastructure development, technology transfer, knowledge creation and sharing in all fields of science and technology to improve the quality of life of the people of Sri Lanka.
National Natural Science Foundation, China (NSFC) is responsible for directing, coordinating and making effective use of the national natural science fund to support basic research and stimulate free exploration, identify and foster scientific talents, as well as to promote science and technology and harmonious socio-economic development of China.
Focusing on strengthening bilateral scientific cooperation, NSF and NSFC are calling for joint proposals from research groups involving members from both countries.
Proposals are called under the following focused areas of mutual interest to address national priorities through Research and Development with a major focus on Environmental Challenges in Industrial Development;
- Water environment protection and water resources management
- Green and low-carbon development and processing
- Solid waste pollution prevention and comprehensive utilization
The Sri Lankan research team should be led by a scientist from a university/ research institute and should include an industry partner.
The Principal Investigator (PI) of the Sri Lankan research team should submit the completed application to NSF-Sri Lanka, while the collaborating Chinese research team should simultaneously submit their application to the NSFC. The project duration should not exceed 03 years.
The Sri Lankan research component is expected to be funded collectively by NSF-Sri Lanka, Industry Partner and any other funding sources. The Chinese component will be funded by the NSFC.

Incomplete, late and inaccurate applications will not be processed.
