Prof. Jayantha Obeysekera, Director and Research Professor at the Sea Level Solutions Center, College of Arts, Science and Education, Florida International University (FIU), USA visited the NSF on 08th March 2022 alone with Prof. Meththika Vithanage of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He held discussion with Prof. Ranjith Senaratne, Chairman of the National Science Foundation with a view to initiating academic cooperation and research collaboration between the NSF and FIU, USA in the field of climate change and sea level rise. Prof. Obeysekera is also an active member of the Sri Lanka Academic Network in the USA, which has a strong membership across the USA. The NSF proposes to develop links with the FIU and the above network so that more academics and scientists of Sri Lankan origin in the USA can be invited to join the Global Digital Platform constructed by the NSF to harness Sri Lankan expatriates for national development.
