The 05th Teacher Training Workshop on scientific research and proposal writing was held at the Siyane National College of Education, Paththalgedara, Veyangoda with participation of 167 student teachers in Science and Maths streams. The introductory remarks were given by Ms. Manojya Rajasinghe, Coordinator of science education, at the Siyane National College of Education while emphasizing the importance of conducting research and encouraging students to engage in research in school life. Ms. Maduka Senaratne showed the role of teachers in improving science literacy in the country, new educational reforms proposed to be implemented from 2023 and the role of NSF in promoting science, technology and innovation in the country to build a scientifically literate society. Dr Jayantha Wattavidanage introduced the basic principles in scientific research and how to develop and conduct successful research projects. Dr. N. Karthikeyan explained how to develop research ideas in physics and mathematics. Dr. Uthpala Jayawardena gave guidance on selection of research project in the field of biological sciences, obtaining of ethical clearance, and referencing. Mr. Lakshan Warnakula gave guidance on developing proposals in agricultural sciences and Ms. Abhimani Ranatunge provided guidance on developing research projects in chemical and zoological sciences. The training programme was conducted interactively with group activities.
